Descrizione di dettaglio | The collection "Rigacci" consists of 150000 mollusc shells, belonging to the actual classes of the Phylum Mollusca (Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, Bivalvia and Scaphopoda), mainly from the Southern Hemisphere collected essentially during the end of the nineteenth century and the first years of the twentieth century. The collection is created through exchanges and purchases Rigacci, which thus constitutes a vast collection of shells from around the world, marine, land and freshwater, distributed in several large drawers in the Museo. These include shells refer only malacofauna present, since the fossil record of Rigacci are part of collections deposited at the Institute of Geology and Paleontology, University of Rome "La Sapienza". The status of the conservation is problematic, either for the physical curation and for the information loss (for example unlabeled specimens in the collection) |
